While the number of clinical trials is building, the subject numbers are limited and conditions frequently do not mimic consumer use. Using a retrospective analysis of post-marketing surveillance data on full- spectrum hemp extract products (FSHE-Charlotte’s Web TM ) the frequency of adverse events (AEs) and serious adverse events (SAEs) of these products was assessed by analyzing AE reports and evaluating the total number of AEs against the total number of product units sold. From a total of approximately 1,939,172 product units sold during the 18-month period, 431 AEs were reported from 304 unique individuals, followed by a physician assessment. The incidence of AEs was 0.022% per unit sold. Seven AEs were classified as serious. The most common type of AEs reported were Grade 1 (CTCAE v5.0), and defined as asymptomatic or mild symptoms in the area of gastrointestinal (e.g. general abdominal discomfort) and nervous system disorders (e.g. dizziness/headache). Based on this dataset of spontaneous consumer reporting the FSHE products were determined to result in consumer reports of AEs (0.022%) and SAEs (0.00036%) and to be well tolerated at the recommended doses. These data, with the limitations of self- reports, are intended to be a starting point and we encourage more companies to explore post- marketing surveillance until more robust data are available. Quitting Smoking with Shark Tank CBD Gummies: Does It Work?

As marijuana becomes increasingly legalized and accepted in society, more individuals are turning to this plant for its claimed health benefits and recreational use. While many people enjoy the effects of marijuana, it’s important for users to be aware of the potential side effects that can come with its consumption. From short-term effects like impaired memory and coordination to more serious long-term consequences on mental health, it’s crucial to understand the risks associated with using marijuana. In this article, we will unravel the side effects of marijuana and what users should be aware of.

Impaired Cognitive Function

One of the most common side effects of marijuana use is impaired cognitive function. This can manifest as difficulty with memory, concentration, and decision-making. Regular marijuana use has been linked to long-term cognitive deficits, particularly in adolescents whose brains are still developing. Studies have shown that heavy marijuana use during adolescence can lead to a decrease in IQ and a lower level of cognitive functioning later in life.

Additionally, marijuana can impair short-term memory, making it difficult to retain information or recall recent events. This can be particularly problematic in academic or work settings where cognitive abilities are crucial for success. While these effects may be temporary and subside once the individual stops using marijuana, long-term use can lead to more persistent cognitive impairments.

It’s important for users to be aware of these potential cognitive side effects and consider them when deciding whether to use marijuana. Individuals with preexisting cognitive issues or those at risk for cognitive decline should exercise caution when using this substance to avoid exacerbating these problems.

Respiratory Issues

Smoking marijuana, whether in the form of joints, blunts, or bongs, can have negative effects on the respiratory system. The combustion of marijuana releases harmful toxins and carcinogens that can irritate the lungs and airways. Chronic marijuana smokers may experience symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and chest tightness. Long-term use of marijuana can also increase the risk of respiratory infections and chronic bronchitis.

Individuals who use marijuana for medical purposes may consider alternative methods of consumption, such as vaporization or edibles, to reduce the potential harm to their respiratory system. Vaporizing marijuana heats the plant material to a temperature that releases the active compounds without burning it, reducing the production of harmful byproducts. Edibles, which consist of marijuana-infused food products, bypass the respiratory system altogether and are absorbed through the digestive tract.

Users should be mindful of the impact of smoking marijuana on their respiratory health and consider alternative consumption methods to minimize the risks associated with inhaling smoke.

Psychological Effects

Another set of side effects that users should be aware of are the psychological effects of marijuana. While some individuals may use marijuana to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression, or stress, others may experience heightened anxiety, paranoia, or psychosis after using the drug. These effects can be particularly intense in individuals who are predisposed to mental health disorders or who use marijuana in high doses.

Regular marijuana use has been associated with an increased risk of developing psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, especially in individuals with a family history of mental illness. The use of high-THC strains of marijuana has also been linked to a greater likelihood of experiencing psychotic symptoms like hallucinations or delusions.

Users should carefully monitor their mental health and well-being when using marijuana and seek professional help if they experience negative psychological effects. It’s important to be aware of the potential risks to mental health and consider them when deciding whether to use marijuana.

Cardiovascular Effects

Marijuana use can have various effects on the cardiovascular system, including changes in heart rate, blood pressure, and circulation. Short-term use of marijuana can cause a rapid heart rate, known as tachycardia, which can be alarming for some individuals. This increased heart rate may pose risks to individuals with preexisting cardiovascular conditions or those who are at risk for heart problems.

Furthermore, marijuana has been shown to have both vasodilatory and vasoconstrictive effects on blood vessels, which can lead to fluctuations in blood pressure. Individuals with hypertension or other cardiovascular issues should use caution when using marijuana, as it may exacerbate these conditions or pose additional risks to their cardiovascular health.

Users should be aware of the potential cardiovascular effects of marijuana and consult with a healthcare provider if they have concerns about how marijuana use may impact their heart health. Monitoring heart rate and blood pressure during and after marijuana consumption can help individuals identify any adverse effects on their cardiovascular system.

Dependence and Addiction

While marijuana is often touted as a safe and non-addictive substance, it can lead to dependence and addiction in some users. Regular use of marijuana can lead to the development of tolerance, requiring individuals to consume larger doses to achieve the desired effects. This can escalate to dependence, where individuals may experience withdrawal symptoms such as irritability, insomnia, and cravings when they stop using marijuana.

In some cases, individuals may develop a marijuana use disorder, characterized by compulsive use of the drug despite negative consequences on their health, relationships, or work. This can interfere with daily functioning and lead to a cycle of addiction that is difficult to break without professional help. Individuals with a personal or family history of substance abuse may be at a higher risk of developing a marijuana use disorder.

Users should be mindful of their patterns of marijuana use and seek help if they find themselves unable to control their consumption or experiencing negative effects from their use. Understanding the potential for dependence and addiction can help individuals make informed decisions about using marijuana and seek support if needed.

After exploring the various side effects of marijuana and what users should be aware of, it’s clear that this plant has both benefits and risks that individuals need to consider. By understanding the potential cognitive, respiratory, psychological, cardiovascular, and addictive effects of marijuana, users can make informed decisions about their use and take steps to mitigate any negative consequences. Whether using marijuana for medical purposes or recreational enjoyment, it’s important for individuals to prioritize their health and well-being when consuming this substance.
