What's the difference between water retention vs. fat loss and how to get rid of water retention when dieting? Subscribe here https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=shockingfit Online Coaching now available: https://www.tomic.com/contact/ Important video on how to break a weight loss plateau: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQlzlCQvdjg Water retention while in a calorie deficit is much more widespread than a lot of people realize and it's one of the leading causes of frustration with those who aren't aware of it. When we look at weight loss progress there are only three possibilities for a plateau: 1 - You're not following the program, you're over your calorie intake on some days whether consciously or unconsciously. People often fail their diet without realizing it. Unconsciously eating more calories is a lot more common from my experience. And studies that used self-reported intake clearly show that. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM199212313272701 showed that people claimed 47% less caloric than they ate. 2 - You've reached a new caloric maintenance. Of course, this is to be expected as your body will adapt over time to the intake. At this point, you simply need to reduce calories, add more activity or both to continue losing fat. And the 3rd reason is why your might not be moving down is water retention. Of course, it can only be only one or a combination of all three factors. Let's focus on water retention. A lot of people have a hard time knowing whether they have water retention or whether their body has adapted to the set calorie intake. This can sometimes lead to incorrect decisions if you're not patient and then you further cut calories leading to muscle loss as well as increased stress (more water retention) and making the whole thing worse. According to Lyle McDonal, a part of fat is water and the theory is that when fat cells are emptied, they fill up with water for a brief period. This is often called squishy fat. Unfortunately, it's very hard to diagnose if the plateau is caused by water retention as it's hard to see in the mirror. Here's what you can do: As you're hitting your calories based on your estimated deficit (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4U98bYkTnU) you'll probably have two conditions: 1 - Sudden stop in weight loss according to the scale. Your average weight was dropping every week, and then it suddenly stopped. 2 - Gradual reduction in weight loss over the course of few weeks. The condition #1 is most likely water retention, and it's important not to panic when this happens. A lot of times it just takes a few more days or 1-2 weeks until the scale shows progress. Most important thing here is to trust the process. And since you're tracking the calories and you're sure that your deficit is in place it's very likely water retention masking the scale number. Water retention can also be caused by many factors, especially short-term. It can be caused by different foods in your diet, sudden elevations in cortisol due to stress caused by life factors. Cutting calories further at this point wouldn't be a good idea as you will dump the water eventually. It's not uncommon to see people stalled for 2-3 weeks to wake up 4-6 pounds lighter overnight just by being patient. Other solutions: - Try high carb refeeds (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwcnEEn17Vs) - 1-2 week diet break to maintenance - Destress - Catch up on sleep. Or maybe you’re looking to switch things up? Are you curious about medications like Wegovy (Ozempic), Zepbound (Mounjaro), Saxenda (Victoza), Contrave (Naltrexone/Bupropion) and Xenical (Orlistat)? In this video, we'll take a look into the world of weight loss medications, what to expect, and how they can aid in your weight loss journey. Like anything else, we need to understand the basics. Weight loss is about creating a calorie deficit—burning more calories than you consume. All diets aim to achieve this, and medications are just tools to make it easier. They are not a quick fix! I’m going through all the various GLP-1 options available globally, including GLP-1 based meds like Wegovy (Ozempic), Zepbound, and Saxenda, as well as Contrave and Xenical. Each works differently to support weight management efforts. I’ll also compare the average weight loss percentages associated with each medication. For example, Zepbound boasts an average loss of 21% from baseline weight, while others like Contrave offer around 8-10%. I’ll help you understand the mechanisms behind GLP-1 based medications, like Contrave's combination approach, and Xenical's fat-blocking properties. I’ll discuss their effects on appetite, satiety, and food-seeking behaviors. And no medication is without side effects. I’ll cover common as well as rare side effects associated with each medication, helping you make an informed decision. Whether you're considering medication or exploring other weight loss strategies, remember, your journey to better health is about progress, not perfection. Are you struggling to lose weight despite following a healthy diet and exercise plan? If so, you may want to consider prescription weight loss pills as a solution. While these pills are not a magic bullet for weight loss, they can be a helpful tool when used in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle. In this article, we will explore the world of RX weight loss pills and how they can help you achieve your weight loss goals.

The Benefits of RX Weight Loss Pills

Prescription weight loss pills offer several benefits for individuals looking to shed excess pounds. One of the main advantages is that these pills are generally more effective than over-the-counter weight loss supplements. They are also typically prescribed by a healthcare provider, ensuring that you are using a safe and FDA-approved product.

Additionally, prescription weight loss pills are often recommended for individuals who have a BMI of 30 or higher, or for those with a BMI of 27 or higher with obesity-related health conditions. These pills can help reduce appetite, increase metabolism, and aid in fat absorption, making them a valuable tool in your weight loss journey.

Another benefit of prescription weight loss pills is that they are typically monitored by a healthcare provider, allowing for regular check-ins to track progress and ensure the pills are working effectively. This level of support and monitoring can help you stay on track and motivated to reach your weight loss goals.

Common Types of RX Weight Loss Pills

There are several different types of prescription weight loss pills available on the market, each with its own set of benefits and potential side effects. One common type is orlistat, which works by blocking the absorption of fat in the body. This can lead to decreased calorie intake and weight loss over time.

Phentermine is another popular prescription weight loss pill, which works as an appetite suppressant to help reduce food cravings. This can lead to lower calorie intake and ultimately weight loss. However, it is important to note that phentermine is typically only prescribed for short-term use due to its potential for abuse and dependence.

Considerations Before Taking RX Weight Loss Pills

Before starting any prescription weight loss pill, it is important to consider several factors to ensure your safety and success. First, be sure to discuss your weight loss goals and medical history with a healthcare provider to determine if prescription weight loss pills are the right choice for you.

It is also important to be aware of potential side effects of prescription weight loss pills, which can include nausea, diarrhea, constipation, insomnia, and increased heart rate. These side effects may vary depending on the type of pill you are taking, so be sure to discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider.

Additionally, it is important to follow the prescribed dosage and guidelines for taking prescription weight loss pills.
