Shark Tank is a US television series where budding entrepreneurs pitch their business plans to a panel of wealthy investors. In one episode, the sharks were introduced to a brand new product that seems to have the market talking: keto diet pills. Many of the clinical studies evaluating the ketogenic diet for weight loss are of poor quality and/or short duration (often lasting less than 12 weeks) and are built on statistically questionable data.

Investment Offers

Following arguments with those entrepreneurs, the sharks started to make investment offers. Some sharks were impressed by a possible market of the Keto diet pills, and considered whether they could capitalise on the expanding trend of the ketogenic diet. However, they further demanded research and testing if they were seriously considering investing on their product.

At the end of the day, none of the sharks wanted to bite on the Keto diet pills. The entrepreneurs presented evidence from their personal experiences that supported the product’s potential, but the sharks were hard-no’s because of the lack of scientific support and weak evidence that there was a market for them. The entrepreneurs left the tank without a deal but with the hope that they could still prove the sharks wrong. Either way, they had to keep fighting for themselves.
