A few main problems with synthetic vitamins: • They have a low absorption rate • They don’t contain all of the cofactors that come with vitamins in nature • They have residual traces of solvents and chemical compounds • Synthetic fat-soluble vitamins have some significant potential side effects • They can contain additives, preservatives, flavorings, and colorings Consuming nutrient-dense foods is the best way to get your vitamins and nutrients. But, it can be difficult to find foods that contain all of the nutrients you need. Natural vitamin supplements have a lot fewer side effects and are much more bioavailable than synthetic supplements. They also come in their natural complexes and don’t contain harmful chemicals, solvents, additives, etc. that could be in synthetic vitamins. One way to identify a synthetic vitamin supplement is to look at the RDAs on the label. If the RDAs are in very high amounts, you know it’s probably synthetic.
