Can You Take Creatine When Trying To Lose Weight, Or Does Creatine Inhibit Fat Loss?
The good news is that creatine doesn’t have any direct impact on fat loss and it will not have any negative impact on your fat loss efforts.
The weight gained from taking creatine monohydrate is from water and nutrients being pulled into the muscle cells. This is known as muscle cell volumizing and this is a good thing. Muscle is made of 75% water, so having more water and nutrients in your muscle cells will make them bigger, fuller, and stronger.
As for how much weight you'll actually gain from taking creatine, it's not that much. I know the magazine and supplement ads all claim you'll gain 10 pounds from taking creatine. I've never gained that much, and most people I've talked to only gain a couple pounds at most. And this small weight gain is all lean mass, so it's not going to hinder your fat loss efforts.
Taking creatine can help you preserve your muscle tissue while on a fat cutting diet. I personally take creatine when dieting for fat loss because it will keep the muscles fuller as you lose fat. It helps prevent that flat and depleted feeling that you normally get when cutting.
