There are 3 main macronutrients ⬇️ Carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Cabs are the body’s primary source of energy. they are broken down into glucose aka “blood sugar” for fuel. Protein is primarily used for building and repairing tissues, although protein can also be an energy source if cab intake is low. Fats are highly concentrated sources of energy that provide more calories gram for gram than cabs or proteins. I suppose what is in question here is not whether you burn fat in the absence of carbs (because this is obvious) but: Does a ketogenic diet wherein you take more fat and less carbohydrate actually help your body get better at metabolizing (“burning”) fat? The answer remains a tautological yes. Necessarily. A diet wherein you take fat and cut out carbs will help the body become more efficient at metabolizing fat because it forces the body to rely on fat as its primary fuel source instead of carbohydrates. Furthermore: - Some studies suggest certain healthy fats, like those found in olive oil, fish and nuts can help increase metabolic rate and burn more calories.
